Senseless Parking Creates Danger

Alert message sent 13/02/2012 09:14:00
Information sent on behalf of Nottinghamshire Police

For parents and guardians of school children in the Eastwood area we would like to make you aware of some problems both parents and residents have recently reported to us. There have been a number of issues with people ignoring road rules during the school run, specifically in the vicinity of Springbank on Church Street and Brookhill Leys on Chewton Street.

Motorists have been double-parking, parking on junctions, over dropped curbs, on the pavement and, in some instances, on Zebra crossings.

This is irresponsible, inconsiderate and dangerous to pedestrians and other road users. We are actively targeting this unacceptable behaviour and motorists who park in this way will be issued with fix penalty notices and prosecutions pursued.

Most, if not all, school children are from the local area and thus only live a short distance from school. Why not get up 15 minutes earlier and all take the brisk walk to school. It not only reduces congestion, but is kinder to the environment and gets the blood pumping ready for a day in class or in the office.

One of Eastwood South Beat Team’s priorities is to reduce speeding and parking offences outside schools. We will be conducting patrols and challenging inappropriate driving and parking.

Please tell your friends and family to sign up to Neighbourhood Alert so they can find out what's happening in their area. Police officers can’t be everywhere at once so the more eyes and ears we have on hot spot areas the better.

Thanks
Eastwood South Beat Team.
