Hi,
Sorry about the delay in sending another Alert out, as on my last alert I did say that I would be sending one out last week, but unfortunately due to several incidents last week I didn't have the time.
It may also be the first time that you’ve received an alert from me, as I’ve recently added more areas to my distribution list, I work mainly with the Arnold Town Centre, but a lot of the work that I do may also involve some of your areas, or you may also visit the Town Centre and would like to know what happens within it.
On Friday 03/02 around 18:00hours myself and a colleague assisted officers around the Blidworth area who were searching for a male who had broken his bail conditions (Not to be near to a certain property)several other units also searched for him including dog handlers & the Force Support Helicopter.
The male was found within several minutes hiding in a field & arrested for breach of Bail conditions; myself and a PC colleague then transported him to Mansfield Custody.
Later that evening, at around 22:30hours we were called to a RTC (Road Traffic Collision) near to Epperstone Bypass, where a vehicle had hit a tree and then rolled onto its side & the driver was trapped within the vehicle.
Several paramedics attended as well as 3 fire & rescue vehicles who freed the driver the vehicle.
The ambulance then transported the patient to hospital, where they made a full recovery and the injuries were classified as minor ones, there were no other vehicles or persons involved in the RTC.
The road was blocked until about 01:00hours on 04/02.
On Saturday due to the snow we received a large number of calls about RTC's as well as young people, who were throwing snowballs at properties,
Myself and colleagues also dealt with an elderly lady who had slipped in the snow near to the Vale Public House Mansfield Road, we originally thought that she have broken her hip, however when the Paramedic’s arrived they believed that It was a broken Femur.
Due to the Icy conditions the Ambulance took a while longer to arrive than it would normally, & the staff at the Vale Public house were able to supply us with umbrellas to keep the snow off of the lady as well as additional blankets to keep her warm, as due to the pain we were unable to move her.
Once the ambulance arrived she was quickly put into the Ambulance & my PC colleague then escorted the ambulance to QMC.
During the period that we were dealing with the injured lady we blocked off one lane of Mansfield Road heading into the City, this was to ensure that my colleagues and the Ambulance staff could treat the lady in safe surroundings.
On Sunday I dealt with some issues in Arnold Town Centre Including an attempt shop theft, and in the evening 18:00-01:00 I was working with colleagues in the Netherfield area at Victoria Retail Park, as we had an operation aimed at reducing careless/dangerous drivers within the area as historically modified cars use the area as a meeting point, there are further operations planned for the future months.
On Monday, I dealt with some ASB issues in and around the Town Centre and during the evening 22:00-01:00 myself and colleagues carried out anti burglary patrols around the Calverton area, & my colleagues continued the patrols throughout the week.
Now let me talk to you know about Arnold Town Centre & what actions we are taking to resolve any issues that arise.
As with a lot Town Centres all over the UK we do have some incidents involving ASB- Anti Social Behaviour.
The legal definition of ASB/ Anti Social Behaviour is “Behaviour by a person which causes or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more other persons not of the same household as the perpetrator”
The majority of the issues with the Town Centre involve groups of young people from 10-20years of age, who “hang around” or who cause a nuisance, this can range from running in and out of shops, being abusive to shop staff/security guards, street drinking or causing low level criminal damage to street furniture.
Over the last few months we have worked closely with the Anti Social Behaviour co-ordinator for Gedling Borough Council, & we have also worked with the Youth services & we have also increased Police Patrols within the areas.
Over this period we have recognised several main offenders of ASB & we have utilised our resource to deal with these effectively.
One of the enforcement options that we have used is the introduction of ABC contracts (Acceptable Behaviour Contract) these are a written agreement between the Council, Police and People who has been issued with it.
They are a formalised way of saying to people that there on our radar, and an ABC can be used as an evidence gathering tool for use if applying for an ASBO, (Anti Social Behaviour Order)
Within the Arnold area we have issued 7 males & 2 Females with ABC contracts, & myself and the Anti Social Behaviour Co-coordinator have also met with the parents/guardians of the young people , as in some cases the actions of the young people can affect the tenancy agreement of the parent/guardian.
Within the contracts are conditions, some of which are:
- Not to congregate in groups of 3 or more in the Arnold Town Centre, or other areas shown on the map.
- Not to throw objects, including fireworks at property or people
- Not to verbally abuse, use foul & abusive language or threaten violence to members of the public, Nottinghamshire Police, Gedling Borough Council Staff, or Youth Workers.
- To leave the site of Redhill leisure centre or Redhill Youth Centre immediately when requested by a member of staff of Nottinghamshire Police
Also as we do have information sharing procedures in place, the details of the people who are on ABC contracts have also been passed onto Gedling Borough CCTV operatives whose cameras cover the majority of the Arnold Town Centre.
Since the introductions of the contracts we have seen a decrease in the number of calls made to us & we continue to meet with the people and also the parents of them to discuss their progress.
The contract are due to run until June 2012 but can be extended if required, or we can also utilise other options which are available for us to use within any area where there have been issues with ASB, for a full list of them please visit Gedling Borough Council Website & also Nottinghamshire Police Website
If you do have any queries regarding any aspect of any of the above, or if you would like more information on any issues around Arnold Town Centre, Please let me know,
I try to use the Neighbourhood Alert on a weekly basis to do a round up of what’s occurred & I also like to give information out about any incentives that were running , or good news stories .
